The symposium is in honour of Emeritus Professor Peter Stanley of the University of Manchester. The session celebrates over 30 years of Professor Stanley’s outstanding contribution to the area to the area of ‘thermoelastic stress analysis’ and his pioneering work in the application of sensitive infrared detectors in stress analysis problems.

Thermal techniques to understand damage mechanisms in materials and structures are used in a wide range of industrial applications. The techniques have gained popularity with the reduction in costs associated with infrared camera systems. Improved sensitivity and more reliable temperature calibrations have meant that more accurate and higher resolution data can be obtained that was previously available. The purpose of the symposium is to bring together novel work on all aspects of thermal approaches to stress and damage analysis. The main thrust of the session will be on the analysis of ‘thermoelastic behaviour’ of material and using this behaviour to elicit information on the stresses and failure of structures and materials.

Prospective authors are invited to submit abstracts on the following non-exclusive list of symposium topics:

  • Fracture mechanics and failure assessments
  • Composite structures
  • Inhomogeneous materials
  • Damage assessments
  • Small scale testing
  • Stress Analysis
  • Nonlinear materials
  • Residual Stresses
  • Plasticity
  • Material characterisations

The web site of the ICEM13 (http://www.icem13.gr ) provides all information currently available and will be periodically updated.

Important dates:

  • Please submit a two-page abstract by September 30, 2006. The abstract should be written according to a specific format and submitted online through the ICEM13 webpage <http://www.icem13.gr/index.php?id=9,0,0,1,0,0> .
  • Notification of Acceptance/Rejection by November 2006
  • Submission of Full Paper by January 2007
